innocent

remember the innocent eye, ear, nose and touch receptors of childhood?

remember how the world was before your senses got contaminated by your intellect? before everything got mediated through the rules, received wisdom, and fashions that you learned? when you could hear a piece of music and have a purely emotional response, unsullied by the dictates of 'cool' or of intellectual snobbery?

remember how beautiful that world was, before you'd made your mind up about everything?

You're absolutely right, and I want it back. Can we get it back?

I've been lurking here for some time--found your blog through the random "next blog" link on the blogs of others.

Sorry...you don't know me, hope that's not too weird...

I was moonlighting as a nanny this afternoon for a very young, but ridiculously adorable baby. I was having those same thoughts. She's so innocent...I miss that. I miss the feeling that things are new and exciting...that you won't get in trouble. She's a very cute pudge baby with no hint of a body image problem...especially since she's just now discovering that her feet are hers. Just a thought...

bob - glad you came back after so few recent posts. i'm working on getting my 'innocence mojo' reactivated - i'll let you know how i get on! :-)

karen - no, that's not weird: it's what it's there for! ;-)

i like your pudgy baby story: that unselfconsciousness does appeal - being english, i have majored in self-consciousness for about 30 years. now, where are my feet...

Haha...I think everyone is in some respect. The question is do you live in spite of it or let it ruin your laughter... I would hope most times everyone chooses to laugh, otherwise I need to meet them and it is a moral obligation to make them at least smile... hehe...

Karen...

i smile through the tears, y'know? (I'm a walking, talking cliche...)

funnily enough, i do like to make other people feel good about themselves/laugh. i feel that this is a noble duty - we should all give it priority. ;-)

Pretty much how I've lived my life for the past few years...but I sort of found home when I went to college...so much less tears. Kind of comforting, considering there were a lot before that. And it's ok to be a walking, talking cliche...just the fact that you said it as such means that you're not...hehe...Life's funny like that...
