Easy shot

George W. Bush said, of Terri Schiavo:

"In cases like this one, where there are serious questions and substantial doubts, our society, our laws, and our courts should have a presumption in favour of life."

Meanwhile, the death penalty is in force in the US, despite all the errors and miscarriages of justice, past, present, and future:

some stats

A cheap shot, maybe, but such an obvious fucking incongruity of rhetoric and reality.

Ah, you're back! No, not a cheap shot but a point worth making. Reminds me of a song by Pete Seeger (I think - he sang it anyway)
"What did you learn in school today, dear little boy of mine?
I learned that Washington never told a lie
I learned that soldiers hardly ever die
I learned that everybody is free
That's what the teacher said to me...

What did you learn in school today, dear little boy of mine?
I learned that policemen are my friends
I learned that justice never ends
I learned that murderers die for their crimes
Even if we make a mistake sometimes...

there is more, but you get the drift
